Not only the Provident Fund but also another scheme is run by the government, its name is ESIC i.e. State Employees Insurance Scheme. Under this scheme, employees get so many benefits including health facilities.

What is ESIC?

ESIC Employees Insurance Scheme is a health insurance scheme for the government and private sector employees. In an organization with 10 to 20 employees or more, the scheme is implemented and is run under the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment.

Contribution to ESIC:

Both employees and employers contribute to ESIC. The contribution amount varies from time to time. Presently, 0.75% of the employee’s salary is contributed by ESIC and the employer contributes 3.25%. Employees whose average salary is Rs 137 per day, they do not have to contribute.

These employees benefit:

The salary limit of employees in ESIC is fixed. Employees with a salary up to Rs 21,000 come under the scheme. Earlier its limit was Rs 15,000 monthly salary, but in the year 2016, it was increased to Rs 21,000.

What are the benefits of ESIC for employees?

Medical facilities are provided to the employee having ESIC registration and his family under the ESIC scheme. Free treatment is available in case of poor health. ESIC dispensaries and hospitals are given free treatment to employees. In case of serious illness, he is referred to a private hospital. The entire cost is borne by the ESIC upon admission to a private hospital.

If the employee has a serious illness and is unable to work due to illness, then ESIC will pay 70 percent of his salary to that employee. If the employee becomes disabled due to any reason, he will be given 90 percent of his salary. 90% of lifetime salary will be paid on permanent disablement.

Benefit for women:

At ESIC, women get maternity leave (maternal leave). 6 months salary is available with maternity leave. ESIC gives 6 months’ salary only. There is a separate holiday of 6 weeks on miscarriage.

Benefit On death:

ESIC is useful even after the death of the employee 15,000 for the funeral from ESIC. Also, a dependent member of the deceased employee gets a pension.

Pension rules:

On the death of the insured, his dependent gets a pension. Lifetime pension is given to the dependent by ESIC. The pension is divided into 3 parts. First, the wife of the insured will get a pension. Second, the insured gets the children and the third gets the insured’s parents.

How to register under ESIC?

Registration for ESIC is done by the employer. For this, information about family members has to be given. You will also have to decide on the nominee. ESIC facilities will start being available after 9 months of registration.

How can an employee get the benefit of treatment under ESIC?

If you want to get free treatment under ESIC then go to ESI hospital in your area. Show ESI card there. There is a big treatment here including serious diseases.
